I absolutely adore the '69 uniforms. We should wear them all the time.

I like the '69 uniforms. The problem tonight was that they played
like the '69 team.

I don't know what they were thinking going from those uniforms to all
the ugly crap they came up with in the '70s.

The '70s were an awful decade for design in general.

Think super wide ties and lapels on men's suits. Avocado green kitchen
appliances with bright orange formica countertops. Cheapo chandeliers
with a chain running with the power cord all the way to the wall
outlet. White disco suits and polyester shirts buttoned down to the
bellybutton showing off a hairy chest. Supertight polyester pants.
Bell bottoms. The ladies sporting the hairdos with the angel wing
bangs. Feathered ends on both the guys and the gals hair.

Need I go on?

For a hilarious summation, see the movie "Boogie Nights".

Unfortunately for them (and us) the Padres were just following the
trends.

Yeah, and few teams in the major leagues were immune from it. The Padres
tend to get singled out (not undeservedly), but plenty of teams were walking
around in gear that was equally garish if not moreso. The ones that
immediately come to mind are the Indians' red-on-reds, the Pirates' black
pajamas with those awful pillbox hats, the White Sox with their spread
collars and (briefly) shorts, etc.

Perfect description of my grandma's old house. And the horrible green shag
carpet really topped it off.

Dang, I forgot about the shag. Thanks for the memories. :)

There's also the waterbed fad. And cars built to semi self destruct
after 50,000 miles.

Agreed! The '69 unis were classic, especially when worn with the proper
brown stirrups (I think it should be illegal to wear the "throwbacks" with
the currently popular long, baggy-legged look!).

And hey, Nate! Where the hell have you been boy?!? We've missed ya!
